In North Queensland, severe weather events are a part of life.
Warnings issued by government agencies such as the Bureau of Meteorology should be taken seriously, and safety precautions should be followed if you find yourself in the path of a high-risk weather system.
Many predictions currently forecast the tropical low off the coast of Queensland forming into Tropical Cyclone Debbie early tomorrow, and passing over the coast near Townsville on Sunday or Monday.
You should do everything possible to ensure your family and house are safe – but once you’ve battened down the hatches, you should also make sure that you have a playlist of songs that’ll blow you away while you wait out the storm.
As you tape up your windows and buy Woollies out of tinned tuna and bottled water, keep in-theme by giving our TC Debbie Dance Mix a spin! Here are a few of our cyclone-themed favourites:
Scorpions – Rock You Like a Hurricane
There’s nothing like guitar riffs and some classic rock to cover up the sound of thunder overhead and wind howling!
Barbra Streisand – Don’t Rain on My Parade
Our message to Debbie: as great as the wet weather is for the dam, it would be nice if you gave event organisers a bit more notice so things didn’t have to be postponed! Don’t rain on our parade! (Just kidding, we are very grateful for the rain. HUXLEY fully supports Debbie topping up the Ross River Dam).
Rihanna ft. JAY-Z – Umbrella
Just in case you’re new to Townsville, here’s a tip: if Debbie hits, you will not need an umbrella. Because you should not go outside during a cyclone. And even if you do, the rain will blow in sideways and you’ll be a soggy Sao whether you have an umbrella or not. So just crank some Ri-Ri instead and keep the party indoors.
Atomic Kitten – The Tide is High
Extreme weather = extreme ocean currents and tides. Sunday and Monday won’t be the best days for swims at the Strand (please don’t try); they will, however, be the perfect days to get funky with some early-noughties’ pop!
The Little Mermaid – Under the Sea
If the tide does rise a little too high, have no fear – I’ve seen more than enough oceanic Disney movies to convince me, darling, it’s better down where it’s wetter – under da sea! (Please do not try living under the sea. You will drown).
We wish you all have a fun – but safe – weekend. Whether you believe the cyclone will hit close to us or not, please be prepared and postpone any events if you think they’d be unsafe in the weather. To make sitting through the cyclone a breeze, check out our full TC Debbie Dance Mix below!
