You’re not the only one kicking back this Easter long weekend – a lot of local businesses are taking a break too, galleries included. If you do want an art fix, though, we’ve got you covered! Check out a full list of gallery opening times below.
Gallery 48, the Strand
This blink-and-you’ll-miss-it gallery perched just down the road from the Seaview will be open on Easter Saturday from 12-5pm. Gallery 48 is open every Wednesday and Saturday 12-5pm, with its current exhibition featuring works by artists including Frieda Ross, Jane Wege, Anthony Hopkins and Richard Free.
Perc Tucker Regional Gallery
Perc Tucker will close its doors for all four days of the long weekend, before reopening with normal gallery hours next Tuesday. There is a range of exhibitions residing at Perc Tucker currently – one of them being the impressive Resolution: New Indigenous Photomedia. Take a behind-the-scenes look at the exhibition with Curator Kelli Cole here.
Like its sister gallery in the CBD, Pinnacles will stay closed for the entire weekend. Pinnacles will open again on Tuesday, with The Lost Diggers of Vignacourt still on exhibit – a collection of candid photographs taken of soldiers that were recently found in a French attic. The exhibition is only open until 30 April, so is definitely one to visit as soon as possible.
Sylvia Ditchburn Fine Art Gallery
While Sylvia and Ken will take a bit of time off to celebrate the long weekend, they will open the Gallery up from 10am-1pm this Easter Sunday. Sylvia Ditchburn Fine Art Gallery can be found on Ogden Street, across the road from Coffee Dominion. Its latest exhibition, All Creatures Great and Small, features 28 pieces from 22 local artists. Find a teaser of the exhibition here.
The Drill Hall Studio
While you’ll normally find Sue and the team open seven days a week from 9am, Drill Hall is taking a well-deserved break from Friday right through to Monday. As well as being a seller of creations by local artists and home to many workshops and classes, the Studio has a gallery space that currently features an exhibition by Kathy Cornwall, Raw. For a preview of what you’ll see in the exhibition, check out our chat with Kathy here.
Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts
With Umbrella’s current exhibition wrapping up, the Studio will be closed all long weekend and most of next week. Stay tuned though – the doors to Umbrella will fly back open next Friday, 21 April, for the launch of several exciting new exhibitions including Through Skin.
Your Space, Thuringowa Central Library
Your Space is open whenever the Library is – which is not at all over the long weekend, unfortunately. Doors open again on Tuesday, with the small gallery space in the foyer of the Thuringowa Library currently home to a series of beautiful images that will feature in children’s books written and illustrated by local author Maggie O. Find out how you can get your hands on one of Maggie’s books here.
