Making Faces

Make-up by Beccy Jean Cosmetic Artist IMAGE: Danielle Lukic Photography

Bec Dainer of Beccy Jean Cosmetic Artist is part of the team behind this year’s Townsville Fashion Festival. We took 30 seconds to peek behind the scenes with Bec.

What looks will you be creating at this year’s Fashion Festival?
You can expect to see striking eyes with a sheen to the skin and just like metal it’s all about sleek, sharp lines with a shiny metallic finish.

How did you get your start in make-up artistry?
I went down south and did a Cinemagraphic makeup course learning how to do all the cuts and bruises first and then a Napoleon makeup course. Then I came back to Townsville and got into the Bridal industry. Starting out takes time, I did a lot of free work to build a folio and then business flowed from word of mouth and that has paid off for me.

What is your biggest inspiration?
I find strength and an ‘I can and I will’ attitude through listening to other women tell their stories. It motivates and inspires me to keep going and keep improving in every aspect of my life. I’m also in a very visual industry… it’s amazing what can trigger an idea such as objects, articles I read or pictures I see.

What are you hoping to accomplish from being part of this year’s Townsville Fashion Festival?
I’ve been a part of this festival since it started and I have met and continue to meet like-minded creatives and we feed off each other and recommend each other so it has a lot of benefits in that respect.

Townsville Fashion Festival struts back into town 25 – 28 May 2017. Visit for the full program and tickets.
