2017 will be the second year photographer Marion Heath has been involved with the Townsville Fashion Festival. We caught up with Marion to learn more about the way the experience is shaping her as an artist.
What is your biggest inspiration as a photographer?
My fondest childhood memories are of going through mum’s albums and boxes of photographs, her telling us the story behind them all. In a digital world, the tangible photograph and family storytelling has changed dynamics in so many ways. I want to share that legacy with my children and grandchildren, and educate them about the importance of the printed image.
What is your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge is finding my point of difference in a community full of talented and successful photographers. I’m still in the exploring stage of all areas of the many photography genres.
What are you hoping to accomplish from being part of this year’s Townsville Fashion Festival?
I am hoping to improve my photography techniques in fashion and event photography through capturing, documenting all aspects of the Fashion Festival while learning key aspects of event planning and preparation from a photographer point of view.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Claudia Williams and Christina Papadimitriou from Wearable Art Townsville have really stirred my creative side and through this I am working on a personal project which will be my Wearable Art garment. The garment will be used to create 3 fashion images for the end of year graduate exhibition.
