Julie Johnson, the name behind JuleDee Designs, will showcase her creations on the local catwalk again when the Townsville Fashion Festival returns next weekend. We spoke to Julie briefly about her inspirations and aspirations.
What will you be showcasing on this year’s runway?
My collection is a mix between casual but smart race or day wear with a hint of corporate style. Bold colours and some mix n match. I have taken into consideration our beautiful tropical climate up here in North Queensland and used fabrics for our conditions.
How did you get your start in fashion?
When my children left home, I found I had some spare time and got back into my passion for fashion. Starting off in the Townsville Fashion Festival “Newspaper” Couture events, I realised I would rather create a range of women’s clothing that could be worn and enjoyed by women of all ages, so I dusted off my sewing machine and began.
What is your biggest challenge?
Finding the fabrics that I want my next range to be made in! I come up with crazy design ideas and colours and get frustrated when I can’t source what I want, I also find it hard to stop creating.
What are your design aspirations?
I want to accomplish a great brand that women feel comfortable and confident wearing. It’s a great feeling to be able to help women in my home town look and feel wonderful. The Townsville Fashion Festival has been a great local support and I believe there is nothing better than locals supporting locals.
