Townsville’s Band of Dawn has released the second single from its forthcoming EP The Spinning Jenny Vol II today, ahead of back to back shows at this weekend’s Townsville Cultural Festival.
Forget Me Not is a powerfully layered track, that builds on Band of Dawn’s exploration and celebration of front-woman Kimberley ‘Dawn’ Lysons’ Anglo-Indian heritage.
While The Spinning Jenny Vol I explored Dawn’s Western roots, Vol II is inspired by her Royal Indian ancestry, which is particularly apparent in Forget Me Not.
“The very textured sound is a colourful celebration of my Eastern bloodlines,” said Dawn.
“You can hear a number of Indian instruments in the mix: Esraj, Sitar, and Tabla.
“The song itself is about a love that was lost in translation, slipped through the fingertips like sand and faded into the night…… like the illusive sparkles of light on the water as the sun disappears beneath the curved horizon.”
The upcoming EP is off to a strong start, with its first single, Cinders, reaching #6 on Triple J Unearthed Roots charts; and a tour to be announced soon.
“We’re really looking forward to hitting the road – we have some exciting shows in the works and it will be great to get back to some familiar haunts and visit a few new ones,” Dawn said.
Forget Me Not is available now across iTunes, GooglePlay, Spotify and all major digital distributors. Catch Band of Dawn at the Townsville Cultural Festival 7pm Saturday and 2pm Sunday.
