No cultural event over the holiday season holds a flame (pun intended) to Carols by Candlelight. The big tent spectacular in Reid Park is a highlight of the holiday season for many, and features a range of Townsville and Australia’s most talented performers.

Townsville-born and Burdekin-raised Sophie Ricca will perform in her third Carols by Candlelight this year, after a few years off to study at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.

“I love this event because it really brings the community together. The festive atmosphere is infectious and I love to bring my family along,” Sophie said.

Sophie graduated from a Bachelor of Music this October, so the holiday season also marks the start of her foray into local music education.

“After graduating, I moved back to Townsville in time to teach singing lessons in term four. I can’t wait to get started on the next phase of my music career and look forward to fostering young talent and inspiring a younger generation of singers in my home community.

“Carols 2017 will be the third time I have been involved in Townsville’s big tent spectacular! It’s been three years since my last performance there so it will be a wonderful homecoming for me.

Celebrate the holiday season with Carols by Candlelight at Reid Park on 10 December from 5pm. To enquire about singing lessons, find Sophie Ricca – Soprano on Facebook.
