NQOMT will finish 2017 with a bang, as they bring their annual Variety Show to the Riverway Arts Centre this New Year’s Eve.

Kirra Hone, making her directorial debut with the production, said the venue relocation was a perfect opportunity for families to enjoy a night of entertainment with a side of pyrotechnics.

“This will be our first show moved while the Civic Theatre undergoes refurbishments, but will be great with the fireworks and atmosphere at Riverway,” Kirra said.

“My favourite musicals range from the 20s to now – I have no favourite era and couldn’t pin it down to a specific category, so have gone with a Hall of Fame theme to pretty much run wild. It’s all the favourites like David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Queen, Cher, Madonna, and everything in between. We have a fantastic cast of people this year ranging from musical theatre to burlesque and acrobatics, so will be very varied. It isn’t a normal concert just watching people sing; there’ll be a bit of everything and I’m very excited.

“It’s going to be important getting the timing on the show right so that our interval begins on time to see the 9pm fireworks, and then finishes early enough that we’re packed up and out of there by midnight. Moving it all forward to fit in the 9pm fireworks is great and makes it more accessible for families to come along and enjoy.

“Riverway has assured us that, even with fireworks crowds, there will be parking set aside for those people that have tickets to the variety show – so you’ll be guided in with ease! And if you do have any issue, I’ll personally drive to your house and pick you up.

“This is the one show every year with no set audition – it’s all about variety, and features everything from burlesque to skits.”
