Townsville band The Koffin Rockers has played some huge supports in the last 12 months, and is the only local act taking the stage at Hotter Than Hell. The show will kick off a mammoth year for the band, and they’re definitely one to watch.

What’s it like landing a spot on the Hotter than Hell line-up?
Michael Hegarty: Really good for us – these guys are from the 90s and early 2000s and that’s basically what we grew up with, so even though they’re our kind of age, it was such prominent music when we were in our early 20s.

How have you evolved with the calibre of artists you’ve supported?
I guess we spend a lot of time defining who we are as a band, trying not to be pigeonholed into a specific genre or a specific style… as soon as people see you’ve got an upright bass, two things come to mind, either 1) you’re a traditional rockabilly band or 2) they think you’re The Living End. We’ve been trying to carve our own style without going the traditional route and without copying what The Living End has done.

What’s on the cards for this year?
We’ll be recording our first full length album, and we’ve just been signed to an American Label called Bat Cave Records, so that’s going to open up a lot of doors for us. We’ll be sending our material over to them, they’ll be working on it and sending it back, so the album will be mastered and produced in LA, which is a really cool thing. We’re also off to Brisbane and the Gold Coast to support The Creepshow, they’re from Canada, on their run of shows, in March and then in June we’re off to Europe for a four-week tour.

Finish these sentences:
My favourite Aussie song of all time is… ACDC, Let there be Rock.
The ultimate Aussie icon is…. Paul Hogan, without a shadow of a doubt.
I think Triple J’s decision to move the Hottest 100 is… absolutely fine.
Hotter than Hell Punters can expect… Nudity. Just joking.
The Koffin Rockers are about to… smell bad.
