Locals hungry for theatre are in for a treat this weekend, as Short+Sweet Townsville returns to showcase a smorgasbord of 10-minute plays.
Short+Sweet Queensland Executive Producer Sean Dennehy said the event offers local performers an opportunity to stage new work and compete for a place on stage down South.
“Short+Sweet is a unique opportunity for audiences to witness a number of performances in just one sitting. In each strand we’ve packed a diverse selection of new work that will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. The festival is an incredible whirlwind of performance which showcases some of the best talent from Queensland,” Sean said.
“After a successful run of festivals in Townsville that saw at least three local acts appearing at the Brisbane Powerhouse in our Gala Finals, we took a bit of a break in 2017 due to renovations at Dancenorth but we are back now and raring to go.”
Sean said the festival was a chance to guarantee an audience for performances of all skill levels.
“It really is an ideal sandbox opportunity, a space to put yourself and your work on the festival stage. It’s a great venue and a guaranteed audience, but the stakes aren’t too big. If you do happen to make something magical though, then this is only just the beginning.
“Short+Sweet brings together a melting pot of professional, emerging and recreational artists all in the one place. We encourage you to work with new people, or try something you haven’t done before. We’re all here for different reasons, but at the end of the day it’s all just about one thing – ten minutes and a stage.
