BRO’s President Judy Hunter said the performances would pay tribute to some of the most well-known British compositions.
“Audiences should expect popular English music – some more modern than others, mostly from the 20th century,” Judy said.
“The performance includes Crown Imperial March by William Walton, Country Garden by Percy Grainger, Fantasia on Greensleeves by Vaughan Williams, Chanson de Nuit by Edward Elgar and Beatlecracker Suite by Arthur Wilkinson.”
The Beatlecracker Suite arranges popular songs by The Beatles, including Can’t Buy Me Love, Help! and Ticket to Ride into movements of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite.
“We didn’t want to have to turn anyone away due to a lack of seats [at Riverway Arts Centre, opposed to BRO’s usual performance space at the Townsville Civic Theatre], which has lead to us holding two concerts – a matinee and an evening show. Conductor Raymond Yong is a pianist who has played up here before, so we’re very excited to welcome him back.”Catch Barrier Reef Orchestra’s English Landscapes at Riverway Arts Centre on 24 March, with tickets available from What’s on Townsville.
