Festival’s Free Events Booking Out

With one week to go until the launch of Festival 2018 in Townsville, many events on the 12-day program are already filling up – or booking out entirely.

The festival will see a selection of local, national and international acts fill Queens Gardens, Strand Park and Jezzine Barracks for a range of free performances, with only a select few costing anything.

Theatre iNQ Director Terri Brabon said Townsville residents need to get in the habit of booking earlier rather than later – Theatre iNQ’s full season of Alice in Wonderland in Queens Gardens as part of Festival 2018 is already sold out.

“We’re so grateful the Townsville public have really taken to our production of Alice in Wonderland and we’re sold out; we’ve of course produced the show before so to be revisiting the script and the incredible characters is really exciting. We’re thrilled to be able to bring the show back for Festival 2018,” said Terri.

“Obviously it’s exciting to be part of a festival and to be invited to perform, but it’s also brilliant that it’s so heavily-funded that a majority of events are free. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the local community to access art when they may not have given things a go before. We’re excited to perform for people who may not have seen a show – and what’s the worst that could happen, you could enjoy yourself!”

Division 3 Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the opportunity for Townsville to experience a range of performances for free was an opportunity that shouldn’t be passed up.

“It’s typical for locals to leave booking to the last minute but in this regard, I really urge people not to – there’s a plethora of great events filling up already,” Cr Greaney said.

“By the time I booked my tickets I’d unfortunately missed out on Alice in Wonderland, but it just goes to show what amazing local productions and theatre we have here and the incredible support there for it.

“95 per cent of tickets are free, so it’s a brilliant opportunity for Townsville to come out and witness world-class entertainment.”
