Best of the Breast

Entries are now open for the next group exhibition at the Drill Hall Studio, celebrating an everyday object that’s often hidden from view: the humble bra.

Bra-zarre is a celebration of breasts, bras, and all they entail – exhibition curator Sonia Ward said the only limit was an artist’s imagination.

“Artwork is open to any medium – you don’t have to use an actual bra, but could do a painting, a sculpture or anything else related to a bra. For those that would like to incorporate one into their work, we received a sponsorship from Figgers so have 20 bras and seven torsos available in the gallery for people to pick up if they would like to use them in their piece,” Sonia said.

“We’re just focusing on anything to do with the bra for this show, so everyone can interpret it in their own way based on their own experiences. So if they’ve known people with breast cancer, that may influence it – or if they’ve had children, their work may focus on motherhood.

“We’ll have a people’s choice award during the exhibition and voting is done with a gold coin – and we’ll be donating funds raised to Dragons Abreast Townsville. There’s no application cutoff or anything – if people want to have a piece included in the exhibition, they just have to drop it off to the Drill Hall Studio by 24 April.”

Apply to be part of Bra-zarre by emailing the Drill Hall Studio or by dropping your artwork off before 24 April. Catch the opening of Bra-zarre on Friday 27 April.
