Townsville’s King Social has again been recognised for their song-writing prowess with two tracks being named among the Finalists for the 2018 Queensland Music Awards.
Watch Out and Dance on Your Grave, both off King Social’s record-breaking 2017 album In Colour, have been named Finalists in the Indigenous Music Category and the Soul/Funk/RnB Category, respectively. Watch Out was also shortlisted in the Hip-Hop Category.
King Social’s front man Angus Milne said the band was thrilled to be named alongside some of Queensland’s biggest contemporary acts including Amy Shark, The Jungle Giants and Cub Sport.
“We’d always been convinced the tracks on In Colour were the best music we’ve made together as a band, but for the top brass in the industry to recognise that as well is pretty cool,” said ANgus.
“We worked really collaboratively to write these songs and had a great production team behind us to bring all of our ideas together.
“They’re fun songs – we didn’t take ourselves too seriously with subject matter. Watch Out is literally about beating up instruments – upper-cuttin’ percussion and slashing guitar necks – but Stevie’s raps are really clever and the boys have brought a lot of musicality to them so they’re well-rounded big-band, funky kind of sounds.”
The winners of the 2018 Queensland Music Awards will be announced at an Awards Ceremony at the Royal International Convention Centre, Brisbane on 14 May 2018. King Social were also named four-time Finalists in the 2015 Queensland Music Awards.
