Townsville’s Olivia Currin is one of 35 first-year undergraduate students across Australia recently awarded a technology scholarship to help strengthen Australia’s pool of local talent.

As a recipient of the Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship, Olivia is closer to realising her dream of becoming a professional games or advertising animator; with the funding to aid her tuition fees for a Bachelor of Digital Media through CQUniversity.

Olivia said she has always been eager to pursue a career she was passionate about.

“Being an art enthusiast, I always thought pursuing a career as an artist would lead me nowhere. However, after discovering the technological side of art, I truly believe I have found something that I love and will still love in 50 years’ time.”

The scholarship is offered in partnership with 11 universities across Australia to drive greater gender and socio-economic diversity in the industry. In addition to financial support, Olivia and the other recipients will receive real-world work experience, and lifelong networking and development opportunities.
