Last chance to join theatre’s night of nights

The annual Townsville Theatre Community Gala will be held on 7 July 2018

Townsville’s thespians will gather to celebrate another year of fantastic theatrical achievements at the annual Townsville Theatre Community Gala next Saturday, 7 July 2018. But ticket sales close soon!

The evening will include the 2018 Townsville Theatre Community Awards, which recognise the on-stage, back-stage and above-and-beyond work of actors, playwrights, production teams and crew from across the 2017 season, as voted by their peers. The event will also include special performances from each of 2017’s local musical’s – Grease, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, Wicked and Little Shop of Horrors – and live music by Townsville band 45 RPM.

Townsville Theatre Community Gala Committee Members Ryan Mills and Kieri Darrigan said the night was a great opportunity for members of all local theatre groups to come together, have a good laugh,  and leverage each other’s skills and resources for upcoming projects.

“I think it’s important we all see each other as strong theatre family and we strongly encourage cross-company initiatives,” said Ryan.

“It’s also a bloody good way to celebrate how awesome Townsville Theatre is. I think it helps drive us to be better, to learn from each other and collectively have the same standards across all our companies. This way when patrons come to our shows they don’t necessarily associate it with one company but relate it to the overall standard they expect from Townsville theatre.”

The Awards include plays and musical theatre by Townsville’s five theatre groups: Full Throttle, NQOMT, Townsville Choral Society, Townsville Little Theatre and Theatre iNQ.

“It’s great to foster relations and collaboration between companies and different genres of theatre,” Kieri said. “That way we can expose others to all that there is to celebrate in Townsville theatre.”

With just a few days left to grab Gala tickets, Ryan is encouraging anyone who wants to attend to act quickly.

“It’s always important to support local initiatives to ensure they keep their legacy. We really encourage every member of the theatre community to come along and celebrate with us in the beautiful Banquet Centre.”

Tickets for the Townsville Theatre Community Gala are $90 and include a two-course meal and entertainment. Ticket sales close Wednesday, 27 July and are available here.
