Groovin’s Lineup Gets Moovin

Everything old is new again: retro artists such as Coolio and Spinderella join this year's Groovin the Moo lineup, also featuring regular crowd favourites such as Hilltop Hoods and Nick Murphy, formerly known as Chet Faker (pictured). IMAGE: Supplied

Groovin the Moo announced their 2019 lineup this morning, ahead of tickets going on sale this Friday – and reviews are mixed.

On Sunday 5 May, a selection of the best Moo-sicians from across Australia and the world will descend on Townsville for the city’s 12th year hosting the festival.

The retro lineup reflects Groovin’s retro hotel theme that’s been rolled out over the past couple of months, featuring old favourites such as Coolio (of Gangsta’s Paradise fame), Spinderella (the very same Spinderella from Salt n Peppa), and Hilltop Hoods, who have appeared at GTM every two or three years since its inception. Another old favourite returning is Nick Murphy – however audiences would remember him as Chet Faker.

Fresher faces include Billie Eilish, Haiku Hands, and Fisher (fresh from clinching #2 in Triple J’s Hottest 100).

Since this morning’s announcement, a lot of the top comments have been expressing disappointment in the lineup:

But excitement definitely won out, with Hilltop Hoods, Coolio, Billie Eilish and Nick Murphy all looking like the acts not-to-miss.

This isn’t it though: stay tuned over the next couple of months as Groovin the Moo will announce Fresh Produce acts from each region, as well as a local Triple J Unearthed artist who will also take to the stage.

Groovin the Moo will be held at Murray Sporting Complex on Sunday 5 May, with tickets going on sale this Friday. For more information, click here.
