The Townsville Concert Band will perform under the baton of a new conductor this weekend as part of the St James Cathedral Concert Series.

Dawn of a New Day will be the band’s first public performance conducted by Mike Noice. Band member Sam Swan said it was exciting to welcome Mike to the band.

“Mike has previously held the post of Bandmaster of the 10th/27th Battalion Royal South Australia Regiment and has countless years of experience conducting community bands in Adelaide,” Sam said.

Dawn of a New Day is a great opportunity for us to not only welcome Mike to the Townsville Concert Band, but to showcase our new rehearsal space at St James Cathedral.”

Saturday’s concert will be the first of several planned public performances for the band this year.

“We intend to take part in the Northern Fringe Festival in July, possibly performing an encore of our 2018 favourite Songs of Stage & Screen, which we will also perform at Carlyle Gardens in June before staging a free outdoor concert in August. The theme of our August concert has yet to be confirmed, but we’re hoping it will get people of all ages singing along.

“We’re incredibly appreciative of the St James Cathedral for not only hosting our band rehearsals, but showcasing local performers in their Saturday Concert Series. The acoustics of the Cathedral are like nothing you’ve heard before, and we can’t wait to share that beautiful sound with the Townsville community.”

Catch the Townsville Concert Band’s Dawn of a New Day at the St James Cathedral from 4pm this Saturday, with doors open from 3:30pm. Gold coin entry, more details here.
