Australian indie bands San Cisco and Young Lions will headline a free concert at Strand Park as part of the inaugural North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA) this July.

The two national groups will be joined by local band Marrow Lane, following the band winning the local Youth Music Competition, as well as the People’s Choice Winner from June’s Neck of the Woods Music Festival.

Making the announcement today, Mayor Jenny Hill said she was looking forward to seeing similar crowd numbers to last year’s Thundamentals concert launching Festival 2018.

“Last year we had in excess of 5,000 people in Strand Park for the Thundamentals, and we are expecting similar for this,” Cr Hill said.

“San Cisco and Young Lions are regulars on Triple J with a strong undercurrent of support and are just some of the acts visiting Townsville for NAFA – we have a spread of entertainment that will appeal to all ages.

“This will really showcase that Townsville knows how to put on a show and is the capital of events and culture in North Australia.”

Catch San Cisco, Young Lions, Marrow Lane and the Neck of the Woods People’s Choice winner in a free Strand Park concert from 5:30pm on Thursday 18 July. The full program for NAFA and the Northern Fringe will be released soon – stay tuned!
